Older women with a younger man?

Do older women and younger men relationships work? Trust me they do. In fact, I'm marrying a younger man as Honey (click here to read more about our love story) and I are one of those couples. Shocked? Sometimes it's hard to not care what others think of our age difference. Sure I've seen the raised eyebrows, but I am happy and that's all that matters to me!

In every relationship we ask ourselves about the deal breakers. I had to ask myself if I was ready to be with someone that wasn't established in life yet and be there as he goes to Business school. Honey had to ask himself if he wanted to be a young father as I/we want to have children.

Do we notice the age difference? I notice how much we laugh together. Yes sometimes it's funny when I quote a movie and Honey has no idea what I'm talking about. But we teach each other so much. Plus we have so much in common. We want to travel the world, spend time with our family and friends, cook together, become a family and continue to always learn.

I ask you, why it looks like older women with younger men know a secret that others don't. There seems to be a twinkle in their eyes. A twinkle that many of us wish we could bottle. When I was last in L.A. visiting my family, we went to the beach for my father's birthday. A woman from the party walked up to me to congratulate the engagement. She asked me how many years apart we were. I told her 7 1/2. She laughed because she was 13 years older then her husband. And she had such a twinkle in her eye...

Am I attracted to his energy or his hopefulness for the future. I think it's a little of both. So now its your turn to weigh in. Do you think a relationship between an older woman and a younger man can work?

Of course!!! Age doesn't matter. A lady that I teach with...she is 62, and her husband is 82. They are the cutest couple ever!

Now, I know you all aren't that old! But still, age doesn't matter...and it definitely doesn't matter if the woman is older.

Love counts! Not age.

PS - I'm 25 days older than my husband :) HUGE difference! ;)

I am exactly 4 years, one week and one day older than the Boyfriend, and it's the best relationship I've ever been in!! I know that it can work from experience (though, it doesn't always work, as I once dated a guy 7 years younger and that was just too large a gap for us to overcome at the stages we were in at the time!).

Laura, I don't know how I missed your entire love story line! What a wonderful romantic story! I'm nearly through it (you're on your way to Hawaii at this point in my reading) I wish a long and very happy life for you. Reading it, I miss my John tonight and I was just with him until this afternoon. sigh.

Hey girl! I'm FINALLY getting around to being able to read more of your blog. I totally think it can work when the woman is older. I always make fun of my husband because I'm 30 days older than him. ;) But seriously - I totally think it can work. Once you are an adult and you fall in love, the numbers really aren't that important if you ask me. Can't wait to read more about your love story, too! It was awesome to meet you in Vegas!

Age is certainly just a number :-) me and my man are 13 years apart and our relationship is truly fantastic!! It really depends on the dynamic though... I once dated someone older and it just wasn't there..

Unfortunately, my relationship with ex-hubby who was seven years younger than me, did not work. However, he was very immature and selfish, always thinking of only himself so that had alot to do with it. I'm sure you're relationship will be wonderful. I just found your blog and have some reading to do to catch up with your story.

So glad you posted this, because I hadn't heard of the show.... I guess it is safe to say it may not be on DVD yet?

Of course a age difference in a relationship can work. It all depends on the partners - which is true at any age!

ps. I once dated a guy 8 years my junior... I know what that twinkle means. ;-)

Oh there is a twinkle alright but are you sure it is in their eyes. Here is the thing. If older women are now dating younger men and older men are dating younger women. What's left for the younger people to date...infants..pets...what?

The biggest age difference I've had was a woman I was dating a few years back. I was 37 at the time and she was 47.

Hey, thanks for stopping by! I LOVE San Francisco! We lived in Danville for 10 years and my sister and her husband live in the city in North Beach by Giants Stadium (or whatever it's called now). She owns a boutique in Danville and, up until a few months ago, had a second boutique in the city.
I will bookmark your blog and visit often now. ;)

Hey Sweety, wonderfull blog! Glad I found you! Keep up the good work!

And to react on your story: Age is not an issue to me. It's the love that counts!

Have a lovely evening!

Just found your blog today (love your love story). On my way to work this morning many blog posts were swirling in my head and one was this theme. Something about even though there is only 6 years separating me from my dear husband its only rarely something comes up that actually makes me realize I am 6 years older. My first husband was 10 years older and it was also never a big deal.

Like Maven said (that's how I found you) said Love is Love - enjoy a great life. I will be looking forward to reading more of your wonderful blog.
