Our love story: The proposal part II

We walked around the base of Coit Tower and looked out at the view. And then Honey suggested we take the elevator to the top of the Tower to see the entire city. The elevator was packed with tourists and they had picked a wonderful, warm and clear day to see San Francisco. What they weren’t expecting (and neither was I) was they were about to see a proposal as well.

The elevator took us to the top and we started to walk around to see the 360 degree view of San Francisco. We went over to each concrete window of Coit and as new scenery would appear, Honey would tell me about our memories there together. We looked over at the Golden Gate Bridge and he reminded me of the times we’ve been on the bridge together. We looked at the financial district and he told me about the day we first met. Then we saw the Ferry building and Honey talked about how we've gone to the Farmer’s Market Saturday mornings. he then pointed out the Hyatt which is where we spent our first New Years together.

At this point I had tears in my eyes… a lot of them.

Honey talked about our present life together and said some wonderful things about his hopes for our future like how he can't wait for us to be a family and grow old together.

I was very touched and looked away through a window to the beautiful scenery of the Bay. *(I took the beside Coit window photo on the engagement day.)

He then said, “The only place that we don’t have a good memory of is at Coit Tower.” I turned around to ask him what he meant...to see Honey down on one knee and holding a small jewelry box.

'Would you do the honor of being my wife and marrying me?"

It was a wonderful and romantic question that I was happy and shocked to hear.

I’ve been told that I didn’t say yes, but stood there. I threw my arms around Honey and hugged him tight and he had to remind me to look at the ring and put it on. He also had to gently remind me that I hadn't answered his question.

This is so like me lovelies...I forgot to say yes. I told him over and over, "Yes, yes, I will marry you."

Tourists were watching us and gently asked if they could take some pictures of our moment. I’m so thankful that they did.

Later on that night we went to dinner at our favorite restaurant and some friends came over with some champagne and dessert to celebrate. And you know what...Honey was right... this was a wonderful Bloggable engagement story and I will always think of San Francisco and smile.

Our love story: The proposal

In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, I wanted to share with you our engagement story. I’ve been waiting to share this proposal story with you and I thought Valentine’s week was the best time. Don’t you agree? And not only did Honey want our engagement story to be wonderful, unique and romantic for years to come, but he told me it also had to be “Bloggable", for you lovely followers.

If you haven't already, you can click here to catch up on our love story. Be sure to scroll down sweetie.

Our engagement story began on an unusually warm August day. San Francisco is not known for its warm days and the city becomes very still. Most restaurants, stores and apartments do not have air conditioning as the Bay usually cools us down.

It was a random August Thursday and I was working from home. Honey called and said he was coming home early. And then he asked me out on a day date.

I was super excited and wasn’t sure where we were going.

He told me we were going to one of my favorite places to check out Coit Tower. I thought back to the last time we had been to Coit Tower years ago and our trip there hadn’t gone well. (Click here to read about our first date).

You see Honey and I were friends for a year before I discovered I was in love. During our friendship, there was one night where Honey set up a date night took me to Coit Tower and then to dinner. Over dinner he told he wanted to date and I told him I wasn’t ready.

Awkward…

So three years later, we went back to Coit. According to Wikipedia “Coit Tower is an art deco tower, 210 feet (64 m) of unpainted reinforced concrete, that overlooks the entire city. The tower, which stands atop Telegraph Hill in San Francisco's Pioneer Park, offers fantastic views of San Francisco including the Golden Gate Bridge, the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park ("Aquatic Park"), Alcatraz, Pier 39, Angel Island, Treasure Island, the Bay Bridge, Russian Hill, the Financial District, Lombard Street, and Nob Hill.”

OK,e back to the story, Honey was very calm and playful. He made sure I had my camera because he knew I love to document. What he didn’t realize was the usually not busy Coit Tower was filled with tourists that day due to the warmer weather.

We walked around the base of the Tower to look at the views of the Golden Gate Bridge. And then Honey suggested we take the elevator to the top of the Tower to see the entire city. Now the story starts to become a little blurry for me. What I do remember is after he bought us the elevator tickets, he handed them to me to keep. And I’m so glad he did because I still have the tickets in my wallet today dated the day we got engaged. (Such a romantic)...

Little did I know that I was going up the Coit Tower elevator a single lady and coming down engaged.

Can’t wait to find out what happens next…then come back this Wednesday sweetie for the rest of our proposal story. Happy early Valentine’s Day! Do you have plans yet for V-day?

Inspirational Weekend Quote

I completely agree with this inspirational weekend quote. Don't you? You have to fight for what you believe in. It's after you've the won the fight, that things can be easier.

When you're with the right person, have the right friendship or are in the correct work situation pieces of life should fall into place. One should feel supported and cared for.

Life is hard enough, so you should have the correct people in your life to fight with and beside.

When I think back about my friendships or relationships that haven't worked, I now understand that you have to fight for what you want together. My father has always told me, 'When I get older, I will be able to count on one hand my true friends in life." As a teenager, I would fight him on this statement. But I know now that he is right. I would rather fight for the right people in my life and let the other ones go.

Life is to0 short...

"You cannot love a thing without wanting to fight for it," is not only my inspirational weekend quote, but also my life motto. Now I am off today sweetie, to find a shop that can turn this quote into a T-shirt. What quote would you put on your T-shirt?

Fashion rain retro chic

Raindrops keep falling on my head...but that doesn't mean I can't stay fashionable in the rain and retro chic. Sure my hair is wavy, my socks are wet and my umbrella has turned inside out, but at least I'm still smiling. Well lovelies, the rain has been falling over San Francisco for the past 12 days. And yes I am itching for some lovely sun, but it could always be worse. When I first moved to SF, it rained for 3 months straight...
How fab are these Burberry Studded Rain boots? I come from the school of fashion that no matter the weather outside you can still look stylish.

Look it's raining retro umbrellas....

She seems so free and I wish I could let go and stand with her in the rain.

Why am I in love with this rain boot picture? Because I've always wanted a pair, but haven't bought rain boots yet. These boots talked to me and made me wonder if while the heavens are opening up and pouring rain down, would I smile to see these colored Wellies on my feet?

I love the magic of this Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco rain shot.

Don't you love the creativity of this fashion rain chic picture from Betsy & Iya? This picture was taken on the Toronto fashion scene and feels kind of retro. Maybe if I got a pair of these thigh-high boots my rainy days wouldn't look as gloomy. Tell me sweetie, what's your favorite king of weather to play in?

My most embarrassing moment

I’ve had several, but this has to be my most embarrassing moment. Hold on sweetie as I share with you a dark secret that happened to me in high school. I can't wait to hear about yours...

Did I rebel in high school? No, but at one point I cut my hair and dyed it red. Did I throw caution to the wind and not care about grades? Nah, I was usually the teachers pet. Did I get into a scandal with my friend's boyfriend? No way! I usually helped my friends with their relationship problems.

Ah, high school how I miss thee!

My most embarrassing moment happened when I was trying out for the dance team at school. Sure this doesn’t sound traumatizing, but trust me it so was.

After moving to Newport Beach, CA from Toronto I thought I could fit in with dance. Surely my new peers would forget about my Canadian accent while I was dancing. The thing I forgot was my brother was also at my high school and he had other plans for the dancers (like throwing Milk-Bones at the cheerleaders).

So my horrible, years in therapy, worst moment ever, please don't tell anyone came when I had to audition in front of the entire school to make the dance team.

To make the team, we had to perform in the school gym so our peers would vote. It was half based on skill and half a popularity contest. Right before it was my turn to try out, I started to help my younger dance competitors with their portion which was different to mine. I stood proudly on the sidelines as the girls I had helped performed.

*Picture courtesy of the movie Grease while dancing at Rydell High.

Then came my turn, the music started and I began to dance the younger girls dance.

I froze in front of the entire school...

And since I was the only Canadian girl, it was pretty hard to cover up my frozen performance as I finished most of my sentences with eh! So how did I recover from my most embarrassing moment? The dance team gave me another shot and let me try out later in the day. And I was voted in. OK now I'm ready to hear your most embarrassing moment? I promise to keep your secret.

Retro fashion tea party

It's not easy to create a retro fashion tea party, but I felt like combining my two loves of tea and fashion. Tea has always been calming to me. My mother use to drink 3-4 cups a day and taught me how to make the correct color of English tea with milk. Over the years, I have been able to branch out to enjoy green and chamomile tea, but my first love still is Earl Grey. And fashion, well, we've always been good friends. You've been cordially invited to my tea party...

I am in love with this fashion tea party picture from String Magazine, Vancouver's online fashion culture magazine. The color of her dress with her lovely retro makeup, shows the contrast of the green grass...just stunning!

During my childhood, we made trips to England to visit my parent's friends and family. We would always go to Marks & Spencer. These retro tea covers are fabulous from there...

This Alice in Wonderland fashion tea party picture was influenced by the upcoming movie starring Johnny Depp and directed by Tim Burton. I'm looking forward to seeing what Tim comes up with.

Can you pour me a cup of tea while I keep writing? Ah thanx sweetie!

And I love this very San Francisco retro and vintage picture at a coffee shop. Her red hair, pink lips and nails are a wonderful contrast to her teal sweater and teacup. This pic is a great way of finishing our retro fashion tea party. Tell me sweetie, do you feel the same way I do about tea? If not what do you do to stay calm? Have a happy Monday!
